Beneficiaries: Scholarship is open to Students of Latin America and the Caribbean Africa; West Asia (Lebanon, Palestine, Israel, Syria, Iraq, Iran, Yemen, Afghanistan); South Asia (India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Bhutan, Maldives) can apply for this scholarship.

  • Other Benefits: Also, UPEACE offers special conditions to its students for continuing their studies in the Doctoral Programme in Peace and Conflict Studies.

Description

  • The United Nations mandated University for Peace (UPEACE) announces the Peace Builders Fellowship for the academic year 2013-2014.
  • This fellowship has been created to bring opportunities to young professionals who have an interest and commitment to peace, international cooperation, and conflict resolution.
  • Given the global economic situation and the fact that peace cannot wait, UPEACE will meet students from specific regions half-way by providing 50% scholarship.

Eligibility

  • Fulfil general UPEACE admissions requirements (good academic standing, English Proficiency, among others)

  • Commitment to finance 50% of the tuition and other expenses

  • Applicants must be fluent in English, both spoken and written.
  • English Proficiency Score reports such as the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or the International English Language Test (IELTS) are required for applicants whose native language is not English.

Graduation projects focused on developing capacities with training-of-trainers;

  • West Asia Emphasis on Middle East-Western relations
; Practical skills of conflict resolution on community, organization, and international levels
; Focus on management of natural resources and sustainable development
 Courses specialized in terrorism 
Possibility of doing the graduation project in Arabic or English
  • South Asia 
English-based education in a multicultural setting
; Emphasis relevant topics such as post-conflict reconstruction, peaceful settlement of border disputes, urban governance, resource management, water resources, poverty, human rights, and terrorism ;
Courses with strong focus on the South Asia context
