Description

Truman Foundation Scholarships

The 62 new Truman Scholars were selected from among 629 candidates nominated by 293 colleges and universities.

They were chosen by seventeen independent selection panels on the basis of their academic and leadership accomplishments and their likelihood of becoming public service leaders.

Selection panels met across the United States and included distinguished leaders, university presidents, elected officials, federal judges, prominent public servants, and past Truman Scholarship winners.

The Truman is a very competitive national scholarship. Each year, the Foundation reviews over 600 applications for our 55 to 65 Scholarships awarded annually.

These 600 applications do not include the students who compete on their own campus for one of a school’s four nominations.

The Foundation tries to have at least one Truman Scholar each year from each state, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and the Islands (American Samoa, Guam, the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands and the Virgin Islands).

The Foundation will also award more than one scholarship per state or territory if the selection committee agrees that two candidates are equally worthy.
