Teacher Education Scholarship Program in Australia, and applications are submitted till Friday 16 September 2016. NSW Government Education & Communities is funding Teacher Education Scholarship Program for Aboriginal and Non-Aboriginal students to train as teachers. This year, up to 220 scholarships are available for talented students to train as teachers in secondary mathematics, science (physics), technological and applied studies or English, and in special education. Up to 80 of these scholarships are available exclusively for Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander students to train as teachers in primary or any secondary subject. Full details:

Benefits(Value/ Inclusions):

‣ Award No: This year, up to 220 scholarships are available for talented 

students to train as teachers in secondary mathematics, science (physics), technological and applied studies or English, and in special education. Up to 80 of these scholarships are available exclusively for Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander students to train as teachers in primary or any secondary subject.

Scholarship Duration: Scholarships can provide support for up to five years to complete an approved initial teacher education program at a NSW or ACT tertiary institution, or an initial teacher education program at an interstate tertiary institution or an initial teacher education program at an interstate tertiary institution that will lead to a qualification that meets the Department’s and the Board of Studies, Teaching and Educational Standards’ academic requirements for employment as a teacher in NSW public schools.

Scholarship covers: As a scholar, you’ll receive a $5,000 annual training allowance while studying full time for a teaching qualification. When you complete your studies, you are guaranteed permanent employment in a NSW public school in an agreed location and awarded a further $3,000 to assist with expenses such as relocation costs. Another benefit is that beginning teachers in NSW public schools enjoy one of the highest commencing salaries of any profession. In 2014, four-year trained teachers start on a salary of $61,061.

This year, up to 300 scholarships are available for talented students to train as teachers in secondary mathematics, science (physics), technological and applied studies or English, and in special education.

Up to 80 of these scholarships are available exclusively for Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander students to train as teachers in primary or any secondary subject.

Eligibility

To be eligible for Teacher Education Scholarship Program, Applicants must meet the following criteria:

‣ are Australian citizens or permanent residents (scholarship for Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander,

‣ applicants must be Aboriginal people or

‣ Torres Strait Islanders) who are:


  • students currently completing the HSC in a NSW or ACT secondary school or TAFE NSW;
 
  • university students currently undertaking a suitable undergraduate degree, or an undergraduate or postgraduate initial teacher education program at a recognised Australian university;

  • individuals who are no longer at school, already have a degree, or have industry experience and are intending to enrol in an initial teacher education program at a recognised Australian university.
