Representing diverse intellectual, social, ethnic, and economic backgrounds, Presidential Scholars are transformational leaders both on and off campus who have demonstrated a love of learning and a commitment to enhancing both their local and broader civic communities.

The Presidential Scholarship Committee welcomes nominations and applications from all qualified candidates.

Eligibility

Eligibility for the P Scholarship for historically underrepresented students is limited to U.S. Citizens and Permanent Residents.

Eligibility Criteria:

The Presidential Scholarship Committee takes a holistic approach in reviewing applicants and looks at multiple criteria including:


  • Academic Achievement: Academic excellence as evidenced by high school course selection and GPA as well as a high level of achievement on the SAT and/or the ACT.

  • Civic Engagement: Demonstrated commitment to service in school and in the civic community;
  • Expertise in Field/Creativity: Capacity for creative expression and willingness to engage in new ideas

  • Leadership: Demonstrated ability to motivate and build consensus to effect change

  • Resiliency: Ability to handle systemic challenges and navigate resources to overcome obstacles.

Notification: 

Awardees will be notified during the week of March 18th. Students can view their status through myNOVA after March 22, 2013.

Scholarship Application Method

In order to be considered for a P Scholarship, students must have submitted the Villanova Supplement to the Common;

Application and must be nominated by one of the following: the chief academic officer of their high school (principal, president, headmaster), guidance counselor or an official school designee, or a representative from a home school entity or non-profit educational organization dedicated to helping disadvantaged high school students with the college search process.

The P Scholarship application will be available to the student through the myNOVA Prospective Student Portal once the nomination is received and the student has joined myNOVA.

Scholarship Application Due Date: The Nomination Form must be received by the Center for Undergraduate Research and Fellowships by December 1 2013. The Presidential Scholarship Application will close at 11:59 pm PST on January 15, 2014.
