Beneficiaries:

The
scholarship is opened to students of Canada and foreign
students who are studying in Ontario under a temporary resident visa
or student study permit, under the Immigration and Refugee
Protection Act (Canada) are eligible for the allotted international
student awards.

Applicants
who do not have a valid temporary resident visa or student study
permit at the time of application will be required to provide proof
of a valid one at the time of taking up the award.
Benefits:
-
An OGS is
valued at a maximum of $15,000 annually ($5,000 per term) and must
be held for a minimum of two consecutive terms with a full-time
student status.

Awards can
be taken up either in May 2013, September 2013 or January 2014.
Description
-
Since 1975,
Ontario, in partnership with Ontario’s publicly-assisted
universities, has encouraged excellence in graduate studies at the
master’s and doctoral levels through the awarding of Ontario
Graduate Scholarships (OGS).
-
OGS awards
are merit-based scholarships available to students in all
disciplines of academic study.

The OGS
program is jointly funded by the Province of Ontario and Ontario
universities
Eligibility
In order to
be considered for an OGS, applicants must meet the following
criteria:
1.Citizenship
-
be a
Canadian citizen, Permanent Resident, or
-
Protected
Person [under subsection 95(2) of the Immigration and Refugee
Protections Act (Canada)] at the time of the OGS application
deadline date.

foreign
students who are studying in Ontario under a temporary resident visa
or student study permit, under the Immigration and Refugee
Protection Act (Canada) are eligible for the allotted international
student awards.

Applicants

permit at the time of application will be required to provide proof

2.Registration
-
be enrolled
in, or plan to enrol in a graduate program for the 2013-2014
academic year at the University of Ottawa.
-
Full-time
or part-time student status is at the time of application not a
factor.
-
If
applying for funding for a master’s program, applicants cannot
have completed more than 4 terms of their master’s program at the
time of taking up the award.
-
If applying
for funding for a PhD program, applicants cannot have completed more
than 13 sessions of their PhD program at the time of taking up the
award.
3.Minimum
Academic Requirements
The applicant
must, at minimum, meet the following OGS academic requirements:
-
If entering
the third year of graduate studies at the time of application the
applicant must have an overall average of at least A-, which is
equivalent to a GPA of at least 8.0/10 at the University of Ottawa,
on all graduate courses completed
-at the time of application.
-
If master’s
or doctoral degree marks used for calculating an applicant’s GPA
are not available (e.g. courses were graded on a pass-fail basis),
then the last 20 one-term/semester most recently available
university marks will be used to calculate an applicant’s GPA.
- Notification:
Applicants
will be notified no later that April 30, 2013.
