Description

‣ The postdoctoral fellowship was established in 1986 by the NAEd with a grant from the Spencer Foundation. The fellowship program is intended to support early-career scholars working in critical areas of education research. To that end, the NAEd seeks to fund proposals that promise to make significant scholarly contributions to the field of education and to advance the careers of the recipients.

Applications are reviewed by NAEd members and are judged on the applicant’s past research record, career trajectory, and the quality of the project described in the application. To date, the Academy has funded more than 800 postdoctoral fellows. This year, we will award up to 30 fellowships to begin during the 2018-2019 academic year.

Eligibility

Have what it takes to avail National Academy of Education Postdoctoral Fellowship ?

‣ Applicants must have received their PhD, EdD, or equivalent research degree between January 1, 2011, and December 31, 2015. Please note, if you defended your dissertation in 2015, but did not receive your diploma, or were not conferred, until 2016, then you will not be eligible to apply for the fellowship this year. Do please consider applying next year however.

  • Applicant should have a demonstrated record of research experience in education.
  • Proposed project must be an education research project. NAEd funds studies that examine the efficacy of curriculum and teaching methods, however, we do not fund the initial development of curriculum or instructional programs.
  • Applications will be judged on the applicant's past research record, career trajectory in education research, and the quality of the project described in the application.
  • Applications must be made by the individual applying for the fellowship; group applications will not be accepted.
  • Non-US citizens are welcome to apply.
  • Concurrent funding for the proposed project is not permitted. You may not hold a grant from the Spencer Foundation at the same time as this fellowship.

Selection criteria:

‣ Complete and eligible applications will be reviewed by a selection committee of members of the National Academy of Education.

‣ Forty to fifty semifinalists will be selected and notified of their status in March 2017. Semifinalist applications will be reviewed by two additional NAEd members and finalists will be notified of the award in May 2017.

Notification:

‣ Awardees for the 2018-19 program will be notified in May 2018.

All applications must be submitted through the NAEd online application. The NAEd will not accept any hard copy applications.

All materials must be received no later than 5 PM Eastern Time on November 2, 2017. Please account for time zone differences.

  • All applications must use 11 point Times New Roman font, double-spaced with one- inch margins. Do not reduce your font size—reviewers must be able to read all documents.
  • All applications and documents must be submitted in English.
  • All uploaded documents must be in pdf format. (NAEd staff will not support any document conversion to pdf.)
  • Do not include cover letters, a table of contents, or any additional materials.
