MARES Management board is happy to announce that the Fourth Call for Applications for Doctoral Candidates has been opened. Full details:

School(Institutions/ Country): The M A R E S' Consortium is a network composed of 24 partners from 15 different countries 

Level:PhD Degree , Training 

Field(s): M A R E S' focusses its research on six scientific and applied fields dealing with the effects of impacts of humans on the natural marine environment. These pre-defined fields are:

  • Future Oceans : temperature changes - hypoxia - acidification
  • Understanding biodiversity effects on the functioning of marine ecosystems
  • Biological invasions
  • Natural Resources : overexploitation, fisheries and aquaculture
  • Ocean noise pollution
  • Habitat loss, urban development, coastal infrastructures and Marine Spatial Planning

Beneficiaries(Target Groups): MARES grants available in total for this Fourth Edition: 5 for Category A applicants (basically non-Europeans); 3 for Category B applicants (Europeans) and 1 additional “window candidate” for either a Western Balkan or Turkish applicant.

Scholarship Duration: These grants have a duration of 3 years.

  Scholarship covers: Selected candidates will get an employment contract, the monthly salary will be approximately between 1400€ and 1800€  and include a bench fee as well (7200€ per year)

Description

‣  The M A R E S' Consortium is a network composed of 24 partners from 15 different countries. It consists of 13 full partners and 11 associated partners; 11 Higher Education Institutions and 13 various institutions (research organisations, businesses, non-profits, ...)

‣   MARES is a Joint Doctoral Programme on Marine Ecosystem Health & Conservation funded through Erasmus Mundus. The programme is offered by a consortium of 24 partners originating from 14 different countries. M A R E S' will focus on six scientific and applied fields(http://www.mares-eu.org/index.asp?p=1842&a=1840), all dealing with the effects of the impact of humans on the natural marine environment.

‣  M A R E S' is funded for 5 years and offers for each of these 5 years approximately 9 fellowships for doctoral researchers. These fellowships are funded for 3 years and always involve at least 2 partners with an obligatory mobility component. The call for applications is open between September and December for fellowships starting at the earliest in September the year after.

  The next call for applications - for M A R E S' Fourth Edition - has been opened September 1st 2013 and will be closed December 1st 2013. This for fellowships starting September 2014 at the earliest.

  M A R E S' offers pre-defined doctoral subjects. You can browse through these in our Subject Catalogue. An applicant indicates the preferred doctoral subject during the application phase.

  MARES also offers a Training Programme.

Eligibility

The M A R E S' doctoral programme defines a common foundation upon which all doctoral candidates must build, regardless of the chosen doctoral subject or involved partners. This common foundation can be summarized as :

  • Research periods with at least two M A R E S' partner institutions
  • Co-tutelle, resulting in a Joint Doctoral Degree
  • Obtaining at least 10 credits in transferable skills and 10 credits in advanced research topics
  • Attending at least two M A R E S' Annual Meetings
  • Attending at least two international scientific conferences (with a poster or oral presentation)
  • Having at least one publication accepted in a peer reviewed journal.

  The application phase in M A R E S' is open for 3 months: from September 1st to December 1st. This is for fellowships starting at the earliest September the year after. Three application rounds have already passed (2010, 2011 & 2012) and we expect to publish two more application rounds in 2013 & 2014.

  Each year there are about 9 scholarships available: 3 for Category B applicants; 5 for Category A applicants and 1 for an external window candidate (Western Balkan / Turkey).

  The application process happens fully online. 

  Applicants have to register an account, fill in an online application form and upload the required documents before the deadline in December. 

  It is not necessary to do everything in one session. 

  The application form will save all inputted information, so it's possible to continue completing this form at a later date.
