Macgeorge Fellowships and Honorary Fellowships in Australia, and applications are submitted till Friday 26 August 2016, at 5pm. The University of Melbourne is offering Macgeorge Fellowships and Honorary Fellowships for Australian and international visitors to undertake an uninterrupted period of research, writing or creative endeavour. They must be nominated by an appropriate Department of the University of Melbourne to be eligible, and the Department/School/Faculty must give the nominee an Honorary appointment as a Visitor to the University if the nomination is successful. No. of awards: The number of Macgeorge Fellowships and Macgeorge Honorary Fellowships to be offered in any year shall be determined by the Committee.

Scholarship Tenure : Successful Macgeorge Fellows will undertake the Fellowship for the period July 2016 to June 2017.

Value of Scholarship :Fellows will receive a contribution to travel fares and living expenses and accommodation at the historic ‘Ballangeich’ (former home of Norman Macgeorge, patron of the Arts) for 4-8 weeks to undertake an uninterrupted period of research, writing or creative endeavour. Departments/Divisions that are awarded a Macgeorge Fellowship will receive a contribution of up to $10,000 towards the total cost of the Fellowship. The Department/Division must host the visit to the University by the Macgeorge Fellow

Description

There are two types of fellowships available:

Macgeorge Fellowships: The Macgeorge Fellowships are awarded to artists, performers, writers or researchers in the visual, creative and performing arts, music, architecture, conservation, literature, creative writing, language, history, philosophy and anthropology. They can be a resident of Australia or an international visitor.

Macgeorge Honorary Fellowships: Nominations for the Macgeorge Honorary Fellowships are awarded to artists, performers, writers or researchers in the visual, creative and performing arts, music, architecture, conservation, literature, creative writing, language, history, philosophy and anthropology who would benefit from interaction with the University community while working on a short-term project to advance their career. They can be a resident of Australia or an international visitor.

Eligibility

Macgeorge Fellowships and Honorary Fellowships

‣ Macgeorge Fellowships are open to artists, performers, writers or researchers in the visual, creative and performing arts, music, architecture, conservation, literature, creative writing, 

‣ language, history, philosophy and anthropology.

‣ Macgeorge Honorary Fellowships are open to artists, performers, writers or researchers in the visual, creative and performing arts, music, architecture, conservation, literature, creative writing, language, history, philosophy and anthropology who have great potential in their field.

‣ Nominees can be Australian citizens or citizens of any other country. They must be nominated by an appropriate Department/Division of the University of Melbourne to be eligible and the Department/Division must give the nominee an honorary appointment as a visitor to the University of Melbourne if the nomination is successful.

Notification:

‣ Departments will be advised in writing of the outcome of their nomination.


Scholarship Application Method 

‣ Nominations should be developed as a partnership between the Department/Division of the University of Melbourne and the individual. 

‣ Applications received directly from individuals without a covering nomination by a Department of the University of Melbourne will not be considered. 

‣ Only one (1) copy of the nomination papers is required, and these should be submitted to the Office. If sending by post, the nomination papers should be printed (please do not submit anything handwritten), single-spaced, single-sided and stapled once (please do not place the submission in a folder or plastic sleeves). 

‣ If sending electronically, the nomination papers should be combined as one document. Materials submitted with the nomination will not be returned.
