DAAD Research grant for Doctoral Candidates ,Young Scientists & Academics, Germany, and applications are submitted till May 15, 2014 (for 10-month and short-term grants) and November 1, 2014 (for short-term grants). German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) is offering research grants for doctoral candidates, young academics and scientists. Applicants must be citizens or permanent residents of the United States or Canada. Foreign nationals are eligible if they have been full-time students/scholars at an accredited US or Canadian University for at least two years at the time of application deadline. The grant will provide monthly stipend is approximately €1000. In addition, DAAD will pay for health insurance and provide a flat rate subsidy for travel costs. Full details:

Scholarship Duration: DAAD Research Grants are awarded for periods of one to 10 months. Applicants wishing to complete a doctoral degree program in Germany can only apply for the long-term research grant. They may receive up to three one-year extensions.

Scholarship covers: The DAAD Research grant for Doctoral Candidates

will provide monthly stipend is approximately €1000. In addition, DAAD will pay for health insurance and provide a flat rate subsidy for travel costs (US East: €775-850 / West: €850-1075; Canada East: €925 / West: €1300).

DAAD Research Grants for Doctoral Candidates and Young Academics and Scientists are awarded to highly qualified PhD candidates, recent PhDs or to individuals wishing to earn a doctoral degree in Germany.

Eligibility

Have what it takes to avail DAAD Research grant for Doctoral Candidates?

‣ PhD Candidates at North American institutions applying for short-term grants (one to six months) must have ABD status by the time of application deadline, but no more than four years before applying.

‣ For those applying for long-term grants (seven to 10 months) must have reached ABD status by the start of the grant period, but no more than four years before applying.


‣ Post Docs applying for short-term grants (one to six months) should have completed their degrees no longer than four years before the time of application.

‣ Those applying for long-term grants (seven to 10 months) should have completed their degrees no longer than two years before the time of application.


‣ Those wishing to pursue a complete doctoral degree program in Germany must have received their last degree no longer than 6 years ago.


‣ Applicants in all academic fields are welcome to apply, but we do not support to completion of a clinical science degree at a German university such as dentistry, medicine, pharmacy, or veterinary medicine.


‣ Applicants must be citizens or permanent residents of the United States or Canada. Foreign nationals are eligible if they have been full-time students/scholars at an accredited US or Canadian University for at least two years at the time of application deadline.


‣ DAAD Research grant for Doctoral Candidates Applicants in the humanities and social sciences should have a good command of German.


‣ By the time of application deadline, applicants may not have been living in Germany for more than 15 months.


‣ Prior recipients of a DAAD grant/scholarship should contact DAAD New York before applying to determine their eligibility.


‣ Grantees may not hold a DAAD grant with funding from another German, German-American or German-Canadian organization for the same period.

Notification: 

‣ Results will be announced by mid-August (for May 15, 2014 deadline) and Results will be announced at the end of March/beginning of April (for November 1, 2014 deadline).

Scholarship Application Method

‣ DAAD Research grant for Doctoral Candidates Applicants are requested to register with the MOVE Portal prior to making an application. Once registered, applicants will log onto the DAAD Portal where they download an electronic application form and complete it in their own time.

‣ Applicants should have all documents ready in PDF format when they upload their completed application form.

‣ Compulsory documents are all the documents listed above, however, the letters of recommendation (point 6) will not be uploaded, they will have to be sent as hard copies in a sealed envelope.

‣ The DAAD Portal allows applicants to check the status of their application. Once an application has been accepted, a notification and a summary of the application in PDF format will be sent to the DAAD Portal. When your application profile is complete, it will automatically be compiled into one file entitled “Bewerbungszusammenfassung.pdf” (Application Summary). 

‣ Please print out this file, and collate each set in the above order. DO not staple.

‣ This includes the following steps:


  • Select Research Grant for Doctoral Candidates and Young Academics and Scientist via the search engine

  • Register as a user

  • Download and fill in the application form electronically

  • Upload all required documents (the portal will guide you as to what they are)

  • Print out three copies of your application once the system has sent it to you

  • Submit all three copies including the recommendation letters in a sealed envelope

‣ Scholarship Application Due Date : The application deadline is May 15, 2014 (for 10-month and short-term grants) and November 1, 2014 (for short-term grants).
