2016-2017 Hoover Fellowships for International Scholars at UCL in Belgium, and applications are submitted no later than February 29, 2016. Hoover Chair of Economic and Social Ethics is offering fellowships for scholars from outside Belgium, who hold a doctorate or possess equivalent qualifications and are active in the field of economic or social ethics. Scholars with an active interest in the main research themes of the Hoover Chair’s members are particularly welcome. Honorary fellows will be full members of the Hoover Chair for the duration of their stay. Fellows will not receive any stipend, but will be entitled to a contribution to their housing costs of up to EUR 300 per month for duration of up to four months. Field(s): Fellowships are awarded in Economic and Social Ethics. Scholars with an active interest in the main research themes of the Hoover Chair’s members are particularly welcome. These themes include theories of social justice, theories of democracy, the future of the welfare state, the potential and limits of corporate social responsibility, inter-generational justice, linguistic justice, workplace democracy, transparency in collective decision making, the stigmatization of social categories, critical political economy, etc.

Beneficiaries(Target Groups): 2016-2017 Hoover Fellowships are targeted for International students

Benefits(Value/ Inclusions):

‣ Award No: One full Hoover fellowship of EUR 2200 per month (plus social security contributions) for a duration of three months; Several honorary Hoover fellowships for a duration of one to six months with a contribution to housing and travelling costs of up to EUR 500 per month.

Scholarship Duration: Fellowships are awarded for up to four months.

Scholarship covers: All Hoover fellows will be full members of the Hoover Chair for the duration of their stay. They will be provided with office space, internet connection, free access to various other services, some secretarial assistance, and help in finding accommodation. They will be welcome to take an active part in the Hoover Chair’s activities and will have access to the University’s seminars, lecture courses and libraries.

Description

2016-2017 Hoover Fellowships in the field of economic or social ethics will be awarded to scholars wishing to spend part of the academic year 2015-16 at Louvain’s Hoover Chair of Economic and Social Ethics.

Eligibility

To apply for 2016-2017 Hoover Fellowships ,

‣ Candidates must be scholars from outside Belgium, who hold a doctorate or possess equivalent qualifications and are active in the field of economic or social ethics. Candidates for a full fellowship must have no professional income from other sources in the period concerned.

‣ At least some rudiments of French and an active knowledge of either English or French are required. Scholars with an active interest in the main research themes of the Hoover Chair’s members are particularly welcome.

‣ These themes include theories of social justice, theories of democracy, the potential and limits of corporate social responsibility, the stigmatization of social categories, critical political economy, the future of the welfare state, the destiny of the European Union, democracy and solidarity in multinational polities, intergenerational justice, linguistic justice, workplace democracy, transparency in collective decision making, social science research ethics, etc.

‣ Many of them are illustrated in the essays contained in the volume Arguing about Justice, which can be downloaded free of charge.

Scholarship Application Method

‣  Applications must reach Thérèse Davio by e-mail (therese.davio@uclouvain.beno later than 29 February 2016.

‣ They must include

  • a letter (in French or English) stating briefly
  • your current research interests, and in particular what you intend working on during your stay;
  • your linguistic abilities;
  • your preferences as to the length and timing of your stay (between September and May);

  • the names, institutions, positions and e-mail addresses of at least two referees to whom a reference letter could be asked if we find it necessary;
  • a detailed Curriculum Vitae.
