2014 UNESCO-Republic of Korea Co-Sponsored Fellowships , and applications are submitted till 26 May 2014. UNESCO and the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) are offering fellowships programme for the citizens of least developed countries (LDCs) in Africa and Asia-Pacific. These fellowships will enable candidates to conduct research work or participate in a training course in the field of Education at Asia-Pacific Centre of Education for International Understanding (APCEIU) in the Republic of Korea. Fellows will undertake studies/training under the supervision of an advisor or study director that will be provided by the host institution. Beneficiaries(Target Groups): 2014 UNESCO-Republic of Korea Co-Sponsored Fellowships are targeted for Citizens of following least developed countries (LDCs) in Africa and Asia-Pacific can apply for these fellowships programme: Africa (Angola, Benin, Burkina-Faso, Burundi, Cape Verde, Central African Republic, Chad, Comoros, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Djibouti, Equatorial Guinea, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Gambia, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Lesotho, Liberia, Madagascar, Malawi, Mali, Mozambique, Niger, Rwanda, Sao Tome and Principe, Senegal, Sierra Leone, Somalia, Togo, Uganda, United Republic of Tanzania and Zambia) and Asia & the Pacific (Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Cambodia, Kiribati, Lao People’s Democratic Republic, Maldives, Myanmar, Nepal, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Tuvalu, and Vanuatu).

Benefits(Value/ Inclusions):

‣ Award No:  The Government of the Republic of Korea is offering twenty five (25) fellowships of no more than two months’ duration.

Scholarship Duration: Fellowships are offered no more than two months’ duration (from 01 September to 31 October 2014).

Scholarship covers: Facilities offered by the Government of the Republic of Korea
-Beneficiaries of these fellowships will be exempt from tuition fees for the duration of the study/training.
-Fellows will undertake studies/training under the supervision of an advisor or study director that will be provided by the host institution.
-The donor Government will pay stipends to beneficiaries on a monthly basis, in local currency.  The stipends are intended to cover living expenses such as accommodation, meals, pocket expenses, and incidentals.  The donor will determine the amount of the stipend to be granted to beneficiaries.
-Health Insurance.
Facilities offered by UNESCO
-UNESCO will cover international travel expenses, estimated at approximately US$2,500 per fellow, and will pay a one-time travel allowance amounting to US $200 per fellow.
Other Conditions: No provision to finance or lodge fellows’ family members can be made. Beneficiaries will be required to submit a final report upon termination of the fellowship, signed jointly by the fellow and his/her advisor or study/training director.  A copy of this report will be sent to the KOICA/APCEIU(2014 UNESCO-Republic of Korea Co-Sponsored Fellowships


Description

‣ In line with the strategy and objectives approved in 37 C/5 for 2014 UNESCO-Republic of Korea Co-Sponsored Fellowships in application of the Memorandum of Understanding signed by UNESCO and the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) in 2013, the Government of the Republic of Korea is offering twenty five (25) fellowships of no more than two months’ duration. 

‣ Aimed at enhancing human resources and national capacity-building in least developed countries (LDCs) in Africa and Asia-Pacific, these fellowships will enable candidates to conduct research work or participate in a training course in the Republic of Korea.

‣ The medium of instruction is English.

Eligibility

To be eligible for 2014 UNESCO-Republic of Korea Co-Sponsored Fellowships , applicant must fit the following criteria:-

‣ Candidates must hold at least a Bachelor’s Degree


‣ Candidates must be proficient in English


‣ Candidates must not be more than 50 years of age


‣ Candidates must be in good health, both mentally and physically


‣ Candidates must have a minimum 5-year career in the field of Education (i.e., educational policy, development of educational material or curriculum, school/class management and teacher’s training).

Selection Criteria:

‣ The final selection of the beneficiaries for a fellowship lies with the KOICA/APCEIU/ Permanent Delegation of the Republic of Korea to UNESCO.

Notification:

‣ Candidates not informed of their selection by 18 August 2014 should consider that the donor government has not approved their applications.

Scholarship Application Method

‣ All applications must be endorsed by the National Commission for UNESCO and must be made on a UNESCO fellowship application form.

‣ The implementing agency in the Republic of Korea will be the KOICA/APCEIU. The following documents must be attached to the application form in duplicate: Photocopies of diplomas and school-certified transcript of academic records, Certificate of English Language Proficiency by an official authority (if English is not the medium of instruction in the home country) and Two photographs. Only selected candidates will be required to submit a medical examination report.

‣ The Fellowships Section will send a medical examination form to selected candidates during the issuance of the fellowship award.

‣ Scholarship Applications are due on 26 May 2014.
