2014 Spring BCAM International Postdoctoral Positions, Spain , and applications aer submitted till June 20, 2014. Basque Center for Applied Mathematics invites applications for up to ten postdoctoral positions starting from September 2014 or as soon as possible thereafter. These positions are available in Mathematical Modelling in Biosciences, Reliable Finite Element Simulations, Mathematical Physics, CFD / Computational Technologies, PDE’s Control and Numerics and Machine Learning and Networks. The gross annual salary of the Fellowship is EUR 26.000 – 30.000. The corresponding annual net income after taxes, social security and medical coverage would be approximately EUR 20.700 – 23.300. There is a moving allowance for those researchers that come from a research institution outside the Basque Country up to EUR 1.000 gross. Full details:

Scholarship Duration: These postdoctoral positions are available for a period of 3 years starting from September 2014 or as soon as possible thereafter.

These 2014 Spring BCAM International Postdoctoral Positions are available in Mathematical Modelling in Biosciences, Reliable Finite Element Simulations, Mathematical Physics, CFD / Computational Technologies, PDE’s Control and Numerics and Machine Learning and Networks.

Eligibility

Requirements for 2014 Spring BCAM International Postdoctoral Positions:

Postdoctoral positions in Mathematical Physics:


‣ Requirements: Promising young researchers; Applicants must have their PhD completed before the end of 2014; PhD degree preferable in Mathematics, Physics, Engineering or Computer Sciences.


‣ Skills and track-record: Good communication and interpersonal skills; Ability to effectively communicate and present research ideas to researchers with different background (e.g., mathematicians and engineers);

‣ Ability to clearly present and publish research outcomes in spoken (talks) and written (papers) form;  Good command of verbal and written English; Scientific computing.


‣ Scientific Profile: The preferred candidate will have: Research experience in Partial Differential Equations and Fourier Analysis, Research experience in Fluid Mechanics, And/or Knowledge of functional (and convex) analysis, operator algebra, quantum statistical mechanics, Ability to develop new research lines.

‣ And/or Research experience and interest in front propagation, Knowledge of statistical methods and stochastic processes, Knowledge of level set methods and Knowledge of wildland fire propagation models.


Postdoctoral positions in CFD / Computational Technologies:


‣ Requirements: Ability to demonstrate exceptional research accomplishments (or promise), PhD degree (preferable in Mathematics or Computer Science) must have their PhD completed when the position starts;

‣ Solid knowledge and experience of numerical methods for the solution of partial differential equations is a requirement, as well as software development for distributed memory architectures.


‣ Skills and track-record: Good communication and interpersonal skills; Ability to effectively communicate and present research ideas to researchers with different background (e.g., mathematicians and engineers);

‣ Ability to clearly present and publish research outcomes in spoken (talks) and written (papers) form; Good command of verbal and written English; Programming knowledge in C++ and Python.


‣ Scientific Profile: The preferred candidate will have: Research experience and interest in adaptive methods for PDE or high-performance scientific computing, Knowledge of the finite element method and MPI or similar distributed programming models.

Postdoctoral positions in Machine Learning and Networks:


‣ Requirements: Promising young researchers; PhD degree (preferable in Mathematics or Computer Sciences) must have their PhD completed.


‣ Skills and track-record: Good communication and interpersonal skills;

‣ Ability to effectively communicate and present research ideas to researchers with different background (e.g., mathematicians and engineers);

‣ Ability to clearly present and publish research outcomes in spoken (talks) and written (papers) form;

‣ Good command of verbal and written English; Programming in Java/C#, R, LaTeX.
-Scientific Profile: The preferred candidate will have: Research experience and interest in the field of Machine Learning in general and probabilistic graphical models in particular, Expertise in the design of algorithms for automatic learning from data of probabilistic graphical models, supervised classification and probabilistic inference, Experience in solving real problems from the natural sciences using techniques from the Machine Learning field and Recent publications in Stochastic Networks and Operations Research.


Postdoctoral positions in Reliable Finite Element Simulations:

‣ Requirements: PhD degree (preferable in Applied Mathematics, Engineering, Geophysics, or Computer Sciences).

‣ The candidate must have his/her PhD completed.


‣ Skills and track-record: Good communication and interpersonal skills;

‣ Ability to effectively communicate and present research ideas to researchers with different background (e.g., mathematicians and engineers);

‣ Ability to clearly present and publish research outcomes in spoken (talks) and written (papers) form; Good command of verbal and written English.


‣ Scientific Profile: The preferred candidate will have: Research experience and interest in Finite Element Methods, High Performance Computing, and/or Numerical Simulation and Inversion of Geophysical Measurements, and in mesh generation techniques and Programming experience in some computer language (FORTRAN, C, C++, Python, etc.) for solving numerically partial differential equations.


Postdoctoral positions in Mathematical Modelling in Biosciences:


‣ Requirements: Promising young researchers; PhD degree, preferably in Applied Mathematics, BioMedical Engineering or Computer Sciences;

‣ must have their PhD completed.


Skills and track-record:

‣ Good communication and interpersonal skills;

‣ Ability to effectively communicate and present research ideas to researchers with different background (mathematicians and medical doctors);

‣ Ability to clearly present and publish research outcomes in spoken (talks) and written (papers) form;

‣ Good command of verbal and written English;

‣ Good programming skills in object-oriented (C++) and/or interpreted (Matlab) languages


Scientific Profile:

‣ The preferred candidate will have: Research experience and interest in biomedical applications, a background in numerical methods for PDE and a taste for interdisciplinary applications.


Postdoctoral positions in PDE’s Control and Numerics:

‣ Requirements: Promising young researchers;

‣ PhD degree (preferable in Mathematics or Computer Sciences) must have their PhD completed.


Skills and track-record:

‣ Good communication and interpersonal skills;

‣ Ability to effectively communicate and present research ideas to researchers with different background (e.g., mathematicians and engineers);

‣ Ability to clearly present and publish research outcomes in spoken (talks) and written (papers) form;

‣ Good command of verbal and written English; Programming in Matlab, LaTeX.


Scientific Profile:

‣ The preferred candidate will have: Research experience and interest in Partial Differential Equations, Fourier and Numerical Analysis, Knowledge of qualitative theory of PDE and Ability on modelling and scientific computing.
